Common Problems

There are many types of refrigerator repairs, but some of the most common problems include leaks, temperature control issues, and noise.
If you’re having any of these problems, or if your refrigerator just isn’t working like it used to, give us a call. We’ll be happy to diagnose the problem and give you an estimate for the repair.
+ Refrigerator Not Cold
If your refrigerator isn’t keeping food cold enough, it could be due to a problem with the temperature control. This is usually an easy fix and just requires adjusting the dial.
The refrigerator condenser coils may also be dirty. Dust and hair gather on the coils over time. This inhibits proper air flow which in turn causes the refrigerator not cooling issue. Clean your refrigerator condenser coils every six to twelve months to prevent this common problem.
If this doesn’t seem to fix the issue, there could be a problem with one of the following:
- Defective Condenser Fan Motor
- Faulty Evaporator Fan Motor
- Start Relay Not Working
We recommend calling for professional refrigerator repair in Chicago if adjusting the thermostat and cleaning the condenser coils doesn’t fix your no cool issue.
+ Refrigerator is Noisy
If your refrigerator is loud or noisy, there are many possible causes. One check you can do yourself is if the condenser coils are dirty. Dirty coils can cause your refrigerator to have to work harder to maintain an ideal temperature. You may hear the condenser running if this is the case. Clean the coils and reevaluate the noise after 24 hours.
If cleaning the condenser coils doesn’t solve the problem, one of the following may be to blame:
- Fan Blade Obstruction
- Noisy Evaporator Fan Motor
- Condenser Fan Motor Obstruction
- Damaged Compressor
- Clogged Water Inlet Valve
+ Refrigerator is Warm but Freezer is Cold
If your refrigerator is warm but the freezer is cold, there are a few possible causes. The most common cause is that the refrigerator’s evaporator coils are iced over. This can happen if the refrigerator isn’t getting enough air flow. Another possibility is that the damper control assembly is defective.
Other possible causes may include:
- Evaporator Fan Motor Not Working
- Defective Thermistor
- Faulty Temperature Control Board
- Broken Defrost Thermostat
+ Refrigerator Water Dispenser Not Working
If your refrigerator water dispenser isn’t working properly, it can be quite an inconvenience. One quick fix is to check the refrigerator water filter. If the filter is clogged, your dispenser may not work.
Other possible reasons that your refrigerator won’t dispense water include:
- Frozen Water Tube in Door
- Defective Water Inlet Valve
- Low Water Pressure
- Faulty Dispenser Control Board
